Lord Pannick QC’s Hamlyn Lecture Co-Sponsored by Legal Wales
On the 10th November 2021, Legal Wales co-sponsored the second of the 2021 Hamlyn Lectures which took place at the Senedd. The Hamlyn Lecturer this year was Lord Pannick QC, one of the best known and most distinguished appellate advocates in the common law world, as well as a prominent legal commentator and an active member of the House of Lords. Lords Pannick’s chosen topic was “Advocacy” and his second lecture addressed the subject of the Ethics of Advocacy. A welcome to the Senedd was extended by the Llywydd, Elin Jones AM who also kindly sponsored the evening. The evening was chaired by Lord Lloyd-Jones JSC and a vote of thanks to Lord Pannick was given by the Counsel General for Wales, Mick Antoniw MS. Due to covid-19 restrictions the event took place before a small, invited audience. However, the event was live streamed to a large audience, numbering over a thousand. Legal Wales’s co-sponsors of the event were the Learned Society of Wales, the Wales and Chester Circuit and Public Law Wales. Professor Avrom Sher, chair of the Hamlyn Trust commented: “I write on behalf of the Hamlyn Trust to thank you and the Legal Wales Foundation for being the principal sponsor and organizer at the Senedd of the wonderful evening on Wednesday. Although Covid issues prevented me from attending I watched with so many others around the world in awe of the magical surroundings within the Senedd building and the perfect set for the Lecture, dutifully socially distanced. And the Lecture itself proved to be a great homage to ethical duties and proper lawyer behaviour.” The complete series of Lord Pannick’s Hamlyn Lectures and further information about the Hamlyn Trust can be found at Hamlyn lectures | | University of Exeter
