Sir Samuel Evans Memorial Prize Certificates Presented at Legal Wales 2021
The Sir Samuel Evans Prize is presented annually for the best honours result at a Welsh law school in memory of the Rt Hon Sir Samuel Evans GCB, LLD President of the Probate Divorce and Admiralty Division of the High Court 1910-1918. The prize is now administered by the University of Wales, Trinity St David through Y Werin Legacy Fund. Since 2019 Legal Wales has arranged with Y Werin Fund for the prize to be presented at the Legal Wales Conference. In first prize winner to be recognised in this way was Alex Falco of Aberystwyth University who was presented with the prize at the Legal Wales Conference 2019 held at the University of South Wales, Trefforest campus. The live streaming of the Legal Wales Conference 2022 from the Law Library at the Cardiff Law Courts enabled the prize winners for 2020 and 2021 to attend in person to receive their prize certificates and congratulations from the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Burnett of Maldon. The 2020 prize was awarded to James Watson of Aberystwyth University, who is now undertaking his training contract with the firm of DLA Piper in Birmingham; and the 2021 prize was awarded to Olivia Rookes who also studied at Aberystwyth, and who is now taking the LLM Legal Practice Course at Cardiff University and hopes to specialise in family law.
