LEDLET - LEGAL WALES SUMMER SCHEME 2021 UPDATE!
July 19th will see the launch of the 2021 LEDLET-Legal Wales Access to Law Summer Scheme. This is the second year of Legal Wales’s collaboration with the LEDLET (the Lord Edmund Davies Legal Education Trust) and the 8th year of LEDLET running Summer Schemes.
Applications were up by 25% this year and 28 Year 12 (Lower Sixth) pupils from all around Wales were selected to take part. The week-long programme will again take place online this year, due to the uncertain COVID-19 situation.
The Scheme aims to give young people from Wales, with no connections in the legal sector, a taste of life as a lawyer.
The online edition comprises talks, Q & A panel sessions and interactive workshops in relevant skills such as advocacy and understanding legislation. Crucially, the Scheme also seeks to encourage the young people to emulate in their lives the example of Lord Edmund-Davies himself, who rose from modest circumstances in the Cynon Valley to Law Lord taking as his motto - “Anelu’n Uchel “ - “Aim High”, and to believe that a successful career in the law is open to them, regardless of their background.
The 2021 Programme is again an exciting one and again well supported among the most senior ranks of the legal profession, with confirmed speakers including the Lord Chancellor (the Rt Hon Robert Buckland QC MP), the Counsel General for Wales (Mick Antoniw AS) and judges from the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal. Also sharing their career stories and professional insights will be solicitors, barristers and chartered legal executives from those recently qualified to Queen’s Counsel and partner level and from a range of practice areas and from different parts of Wales and beyond.
Legal Wales and LEDLET are extremely grateful to all the members of the Judiciary, counsel’s chambers, law firms, and individual barristers, solicitors and chartered legal executives who are so generously devoting their time to supporting this year’s Scheme.
